Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has advised Jake Paul to stay in his lane.
The undisputed super-middleweight champion is gearing up to face four-belt 154lb king Jermell Charlo at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 30.
Despite striving for greatness, the Mexican boxing superstar continues to field questions about a potential fight with a 7-1 YouTuber-turned-boxer.
Paul recently outpointed UFC legend Nate Diaz over ten rounds to bounce back from his first career loss against Tommy Fury.
Post-fight, the man who has been incessantly calling out MMA icon Conor McGregor insisted he is no longer interested in that matchup and claimed to be targeting Canelo instead.
“I don’t care about [McGregor], he needs to go to rehab,” Paul said.
“I want Nate in MMA. I want more professional boxers and I want Canelo.”
Alvarez was kind when asked about Paul calling him out but advised the youngster to keep doing what he's doing rather than go looking for world-class opponents.
“My level is another level,” he told Mirror Fighting.
“I think he needs to enjoy what he’s doing and that’s it.
“He needs to calm down and stop calling out people with other levels.
“I think he needs to focus on what he’s doing, he’s doing good things.”
Paul is expected to cross over to MMA in the near future.
The 26-year-old has signed a deal with PFL and has made a $10million (£7.85m) offer to Diaz ahead of a potential rematch in MMA next year.
Before that, he could box KSI or Fury after two of his biggest rivals go head-to-head in Manchester on October 14.
For now, it appears a fight with Canelo is off the table for Paul.
