New Leeds manager Jesse Marsch believes 'Ted Lasso' hasn't helped American coaches working in football - before using a quote that could have come straight from the show's script.
Ted Lasso, an Apple TV show based on an American manager who is appointed boss of fictitious Premier League side AFC Richmond, was one of the most popular shows of last year and won multiple Emmys.
Lasso, played by US actor Jason Sudeikis, is known for being tactically inept, but his unorthodox man-management techniques see him become a success at the club.
That is not something that the new Leeds manager would necessarily like to be associated with, and he believes that the show has created a stigma around American managers.
But the former RB Leipzig boss didn't do himself any favours when he said something that could have come straight from Lasso himself - which he realised as soon as he said it!
When asked about being the latest American coach to get an opportunity in the Premier League, Marsch said: “There’s probably a stigma. I’m not sure Ted Lasso helped!”
“I haven’t watched the show - but I get it. People hate hearing the word soccer.
"I’ve used the word football since I was a professional player. We’re adapting to the culture in this country.
“It challenges me to grow and develop and to learn new things. All I can say is the only way I know how to do things is to go all in and if you do that you can be surprised. That sounds like Ted Lasso so I’ve heard!”
However, with Patrick Bamford still out injured, Marsch could potentially do with either Jamie Tartt or Dani Rojas to get the Yorkshire outfit firing again...
